2008 Bordeaux hits the shelves today.
I’m not sure I care, yet. I mean, I love to drink wine but
have never been keen to know much about it beyond what someone tells
me. But this year is different. This year for the first time we have
invited a student to live with our family and he happens to be French
and happens to have lived in Bordeaux. So when I heard that people were
lining up at our local liquor store for hours before it opened I wanted
to know why. It turns out that 2008 was a very good year for Bordeaux
wine. Here's the link. http://www.bcliquorstores.com/2008-les-vins-de-bordeaux
I have always wondered what this means exactly. The answer isn’t simple. There are many reasons why one year is better than another. Weather is the obvious variable. But what I didn’t know was how the grapes are affected at a very basic level. I won’t get into this, in fact if you want to know more, I suggest you buy a bottle of the stuff, call me and we can discuss it over a glass with Google open and ready (these facts aren’t on the tip of my tongue anyway so we’ll need help). I will say though that I am interested to know what a 2008 Bordeaux really tastes like, and so I will go and buy a bottle. And, I will prepare a lovely meal to go with. Now I just need to know what that is.
